The AI landscape in 2023 showcased the emergence of AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing, setting the stage for further advancements in 2024. This year, the spotlight remains on the evolution of these AI tools, with anticipated updates and enhancements, particularly for ChatGPT.

Recent buzz suggests a potential new feature in the works that could streamline access to the ChatGPT AI tool directly from Android phones, resembling the ‘Ok Google’ prompt for Google Assistant. A report from Android Authority hints at this development, indicating the possibility of interacting with the AI chatbot seamlessly without manually launching the ChatGPT app.

Speculation arises whether ChatGPT might eventually supplant Google Assistant on Android devices, although confirmations remain uncertain.

Reports detail the recent release of ChatGPT’s version 1.2023.352, unveiling a new activity titled com.openai.voice.assistant.AssistantActivity. This feature, initially disabled, introduces a floating overlay with a dynamic animation reminiscent of the in-app voice chat mode, allowing potential interaction across various screens.

However, in testing, the feature demonstrated limitations, with the animation closing abruptly, hindering interaction. This suggests ongoing development or potential internal controls affecting functionality.

Notably, indications within the code suggest incomplete implementation for ChatGPT to function as a “default digital assistant app.” Moreover, the speculated feature might potentially require a ChatGPT Plus subscription, the premium tier of the AI chatbot.

It’s essential to note that these reported developments are in early stages and haven’t been officially confirmed by ChatGPT. As such, the release of this feature remains uncertain.
